Councilwoman Gyna Bivens, District 5, organized the tour because she kept hearing complaints about the same addresses over and over again. Citizens were becoming frustrated because the problems they were reporting were not getting permanent fixes.
Local community leaders, police and concerned citizens joined the tour. Bivens said “I wanted the residents to hear answers directly from city leaders and was pleased that an assistant city attorney joined us.”
Bivens wanted city staff to see and hear directly from citizens who told them of raw sewage running from an apartment complex on several occasions.
The bus drove through an apartment complex parking lot that was so rough; they ran the risk of losing a tire!
Bivens was pleased that one apartment manager came on the tour and was eager to tell everyone about the improvements he was overseeing at his complex on Tierney.
This won’t be the last tour that Bivens conducts. People who took this tour remarked that it was educational for all.
