About GMN

In September of 1997 Jim Conlin and his mother, Wanda Conlin, embarked on a new venture. This life change was brought about by their love for East Fort Worth. For years they had watched as local media had printed and reported nothing but bad news about the part of Fort Worth they called home. The neighborhoods of East Fort Worth are beautiful, with shaded, wide streets, and very low crime stats. This was never the theme of any story about the area.

The Meadowbrook Shopper had been a local advertising venue for years, and was for sale. The Conlins bought it with the mission of “Providing affordable advertising for East Fort Worth businesses, and remaking the image of East Fort Worth to reflect the truth about the low crime, wonderful citizens, and beauty of the area.”

It has been a learning experience for the mother and son team, but a rewarding one. The Greater Meadowbrook News has become a rallying point for the neighborhoods, and has gained a reputation in Fort Worth for loyalty to its readers and advertisers. The paper is still free and goes to 20,000 mailboxes in five zip codes. The only constraint faced by the owners is the exorbitant costs of postage and printing. More territory could be covered if it were not for these two expenses. The demand for the paper every two weeks is more than can be met. Racks are located in strategic places for those who are not on the mailing list.

The fact that it can be read on line should help with that shortfall.

The Greater Meadowbrook News is published every other Thursday for residents and businesses of East Fort Worth, and West Arlington.
